Julia Charlotte Richter (* 1982 in Gießen ) is a German video artist .
Life
Julia Charlotte Richter studied art and English for high school teaching and fine arts at the Kunsthochschule Kassel under Bjørn Melhus and at the University of Portsmouth . She completed her studies in 2010 and then moved to the Braunschweig University of Art for a master class with Corinna Schnitt . After completing her master class, Richter received a residency scholarship in 2011 at the Willingshausen artists' colony . In 2012 she was a scholarship holder of the Young Art Scholarship in Essen , which is awarded by the Kunsthaus Essen and the Kunstring Folkwang . Funded by the Frauenkulturbüro NRW, the artist spent an exchange scholarship in Tbilisi in 2013 . In 2014 she received a working grant from the Art Fund Foundation .

Jean-Christophe Ammann sees in her work the negotiation of the nature of human existence. With reference to Hans Ulrich Gumbrecht , he also recognizes a criticism of a consciousness of the present that remains stuck in the past and in which there is no departure, "but a melancholy woven into poetry".
“Her films are always about people. The subject of adolescence, which is spoken of variously in connection with her work, is a metaphor for something much more profound: for a fluctuating experience that was shaped from an early age and that cannot be banished from memory. That is the span of her work. She probes the presence in different stages of age and consciousness, shows how the levels - being, behavior, desires and desires - mix. Shows how young people ward off growing up because they perceive the adult world as a threat. A confused, emotionally controversial, but persistent state. Conversely, the memory penetrates into the saturated or hyperactive everyday life of adults: the memory of what you once were, of what you believe or believed to be on the steps of success. "
