Julian Lenz (born February 17, 1993 in Giessen ) is a German tennis player .
Career
Together with Robin Kern , Julian Lenz won the junior double title of the US Open in 2011 . Overall, he reached the career high of 29th place in the junior rankings and played in each of the four Grand Slam tournaments .
After finishing his junior career and graduating from high school, he began studying finance in 2012 at Baylor University , for which he received a scholarship, in Texas . There he also played college tennis . He graduated in 2016.
Lenz started regularly at professional tournaments from mid-2016. He had already been in a final three times on the third-class ITF Future Tour , but always inferior. He was also several times Hesse champion. The best result on the higher endowed ATP Challenger Tour he achieved in 2014 in Napa with a quarter-finals. In 2017, the Grünberger won two futures singles, whereupon he was able to finish the year with 516th place in the world rankings . There were also three titles in doubles. In 2018 at the Challenger in Marburg , Lenz - started with a wildcard - moved into his first semi-final, where he lost to Hugo Dellien . With another future title and the Challenger semi-finals in 2019 in Parma , he made it to 340th, his career high. In July 2019 he will make his debut on the ATP Tour at the Hamburg European Open , having won all of his matches thanks to a wildcard in the single and double qualifications . With his win against Gianluca Mager (No. 142 in the world) he also beat his highest-ever opponent. While he lost 4-6 and 4-6 in the singles in the main draw against Fabio Fognini , he defeated the Zverev brothers Alexander and Mischa in doubles with Daniel Masur before losing in the quarter-finals. In singles and doubles, he was then at his career high in the world rankings.
