Julie Fuchs (born July 24, 1984 in Meaux ) is a French opera, lied and concert singer ( soprano ).

biography

Born in Meaux, France, the daughter of a manager and a swimming instructor, she grew up in Avignon , where she began taking violin lessons at the age of 7. As a teenager she studied violin at the Avignon Conservatory and from the age of 18 she studied singing and acting. In 2006 she moved to the Paris Conservatory in the class of Robert Dumé and later Alain Buet and graduated in 2010 with a Premier Prix.

Since then she has appeared in numerous roles in the lyric soprano field on French stages and later in other countries. In the concert hall she was u. a. with Mozart's Mass in C minor and songs by Debussy , Fauré and Poulenc .

From 2013 to 2015 Julie Fuchs was among the ensemble of the Zurich Opera House and presented amongst others, roles in operas of the baroque and the Viennese classics . At the December 11, 2017, she sang at the funeral of Johnny Hallyday in Paris Ave Maria by Schubert .

Her engagement as Pamina in Die Zauberflöte in May 2018 was canceled by the Hamburg State Opera with reference to security risks after she announced her pregnancy in April. In Calixto Bieito's new production of Monteverdi's L'incoronazione di Poppea at the Zurich Opera House in June / July 2018, however, she was able to take part in the title role. In 2019 she released her latest recording with Deutsche Grammophon, Mademoiselle , a collection of 19th century bel canto arias, some of which were recorded for the first time.

With the declared aim of gaining new opera audiences, Julie Fuchs is particularly active on social media under the title @juliefuchssoprano.
