Julius Koch (oenologist)
Julius Koch (born February 28, 1912 in Frankfurt am Main ; † July 2, 1991 in Eltville am Rhein ) was a German oenologist and food chemist .
Julius Koch was in charge of the Institute for Fruit and Vegetable Utilization at the Geisenheim Research Center and handed it over to Karl Wucherpfennig in 1959 . In 1959, with the help of Ludwig Eckes from Eckes AG, Koch founded the Institute for Beverage Research GmbH as a research and development center and for constant quality control in Nieder-Olm near Mainz .
Research and production
Citrus fruit juices were hardly widespread in Germany in the 1950s. The guiding principle of Ludwig Eckes was that the bottled product should hardly be inferior to the freshly squeezed orange juice . In 1957, Eckes and Koch developed binding quality guidelines for the production of concentrated orange juice, its re-dilution and hot filling.
Koch was director of the Institute for Beverage Research until December 31, 1976. The citrus fruits and orange juice became a focus of his work. In 1958, Hohes C was the first bottled orange juice to hit the German market. In 1963, Dr. Koch's naturally cloudy apple juice . The first multivitamin fruit juice was Dr. Cook's Drink 10 .
