Julius Münter
Andreas Heinrich August Julius Münter (born November 14, 1815 in Nordhausen ; † February 2, 1885 in Greifswald ) was a German physician, botanist, zoologist and university professor.
Life
After attending grammar schools in Nordhausen and Mühlhausen , Münter studied medicine in Berlin and received his doctorate in 1841. In 1844 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina .
After his habilitation in 1848, he went the following year as an associate professor for botany at the University of Greifswald and at the same time received a position as a lecturer for natural history at the Agricultural Academy in Eldena . In 1851 he received the full professorship for botany and zoology and became director of the botanical garden and the zoological museum in Greifswald. In 1870 he was elected rector of the university for one year.
Münter was a member of the natural science association for New Western Pomerania and Rügen .
In 1853, Münter was awarded an honorary doctorate in philosophy by the University of Rostock . In 1865 he was awarded the Red Eagle Order, 4th Class , in 1876 with the Crown Order, 3rd Class , and in 1884 with the honorary title of a Privy Councilor .
After his death, a memorial stone was placed in Greifswald in 1886.
He was married to Bertha von Reder; no children were born from the marriage. His sister Lina was married to the Greifswald law professor Karl Häberlin (1813–1898).
