Julius Miedel

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Julius Miedel (born August 5, 1863 in Weißenburg in Bavaria , † August 18, 1940 in Memmingen ) was a teacher , city archivist, historian and an honorary citizen of Memmingen .

Life

He attended elementary school and the Progymnasium in Weißenburg, then the grammar school in Ansbach , where he graduated from high school in 1882 . He then studied classical philology at the University of Erlangen . During his studies he became a member of the Bubenreuther Erlangen fraternity in the winter semester of 1881/82 . Finally, he passed the state examination for the subjects Latin, Greek, German and history in Erlangen . On December 6, 1890 , he received his doctorate as Dr. phil. at the University of Tübingen . As a young teacher from the Kgl. Bayer. Ministry of Culture deployed in several places. He met his wife Anna in Münchberg and married her in April 1891. In 1892 he was transferred to Memmingen, where he began as a royal teacher at the Latin school in Hallhof. In 1907 he became a royal high school professor , and finally in 1927 senior teacher .

It is interesting that already as a teacher he had his later successor in the Memmingen home care ( Walter Braun ) as a pupil in the Latin school and is obviously enthusiastic, probably “infected”.

Services

His services for the city of Memmingen can only be hinted at here. a. In 1912 he began to publish the Memmingen history sheets. While "Heimatpflege" was previously the association's work, he (and his good cooperation with the then Lord Mayor Fritz Braun) involved the city administration and the district office.

All interested parties can only be recommended to study the obituary given below. But two sentences from it indicate what Memmingen Dr. Miedel (in Memmingen parlance, "Professor Miedel") owes:

“… The need to preserve the valuable old things of our city has found greater and greater understanding over the years, initially probably in the circles of the antiquity association, but then more and more among the citizens themselves….
... all this and a lot that distinguishes Memmingen from other cities in terms of architectural style and advertising overload is ultimately due to the tireless work of Dr. Julius Miedels back. "
