Julius Oldach (born February 17, 1804 in Hamburg , † February 19, 1830 in Munich ) was a German painter of Romanticism and Realism .

Life

Julius Oldach was the first child of the master baker Friedrich Oldach and his wife Catharina. He attended the Royal Academy of Art in Dresden from 1821 to 1823 , after which he became a student of Peter von Cornelius in Munich .

Oldach mainly painted portraits and family pictures and can be classified as a late romantic . He died a few days after his 26th birthday in Munich. The former director of the Hamburger Kunsthalle Alfred Lichtwark wrote a monograph on Oldach .
