Julius Victor Carstens (born November 29, 1849 in Nusse , † November 15, 1908 in Pasing ) was a German painter .

Life

Julius Victor Carstens was born as the son of the doctor Joachim Hermann Carstens in 1849 in the Lübeck exclave Nusse near Lübeck . He comes from a Lübeck family capable of advising, whose lineage was established by the lawyer Joachim Carstens . Carstens became known as a genre, history and landscape painter. Carstens studied genre painting and history painting with Paul Thumann at the Weimar School of Painting with Ferdinand Pauwels , whom he also accompanied on trips to the Netherlands and Belgium. Later he lived and worked in Munich, exhibiting many times in the Munich Glass Palace and at the Berlin art exhibition. In joint artistic circles such as the artist society Allotria , he was in contact with Franz von Lenbach and Franz von Stuck .

His paintings are classic, composed with precise objectivity. His still lifes are very popular. Carstens died in 1908 in the village of Pasing near Munich.
