Julius Zimmermann (born April 30, 1834 in Leipe , † April 11, 1902 in Steglitz ) was a local politician .

After graduating from high school in Cottbus , Zimmermann trained as an administrative officer. He held the office of mayor of Bärwalde in county Konigsberg the Prussian Regierungsbezirk Frankfurt and from the Prussian government district of Potsdam located Bernau held.

On October 2, 1875, he became the mayor of Steglitz. During his tenure in Steglitz, many public buildings such as the town hall and the Matthäuskirche , which was consecrated on November 28, 1880, were built. The foundation stone for the town hall was laid on September 13, 1896, and on March 22, 1898, the birthday of Emperor Wilhelm I , who died in 1888 , it could already be inaugurated.

On October 1, 1901, he resigned from his position in Steglitz.

Honors

Zimmermannstrasse in the Berlin district of Steglitz-Zehlendorf in the Berlin-Steglitz district is named after him. It runs from the castle road in the southeast to Lepsius street in the northwest. Julius Zimmermann was buried in the state's own cemetery in Steglitz , Bergstrasse 34–52. The family grave with a bronze - relief carpenter is now a grave of honor of the city of Berlin . The grave is located in Department D 08, Hereditary Burial 63.
