Juozas Mickevičius (historian)

Juozas Mickevičius (born August 27, 1900 in Mačiūkiai , Plateliai region, Plungė district ; † November 10, 1984 in Šarnelė , Plungė district ) was a Lithuanian historian, museum director, honorary citizen of Kretinga district .

Life

He studied at Plungė High School , where he was interested in regional studies, collected data on Lake Plateliai and cultural monuments of the settlements. At the Vytauto Didžiojo universitetas he completed his studies in history and then taught in high schools in Šilalė and Laukuva . During the Second World War he taught at the Telšiai Seminary and from 1945 worked at the Telšiai Museum , but shortly afterwards he was deported to Siberia . From 1956 he was a senior scientific employee, from 1960 to 1975 director of the Kretinga Museum .

His grave is in the Beržoras cemetery .
