The Yuri Ivanov ( Russian Юрий Иванов ) is one of the most modern and largest signIT - reconnaissance ships of the Russian Navy . The Yuri Ivanov is the type ship of the class of the same name (project 18280).

history

The ship is the lead ship of the modern Russian class of reconnaissance ships, the project 18,280th The Yuri Ivanov was in 2004 in St. Petersburg laid down on , in 2013 launched in and 2015 in the presence of President Vladimir Putin officially handed over to the Russian Seekriegsflotte. It is used by the Northern Fleet . It is named after the Soviet Vice Admiral Yuri Wassiljewitsch Ivanov (1920–1990).

The Yuri Ivanov was the first of four planned ships of this class. All should be completed by 2020. A second ship, the Iwan Churs, has been under construction since 2013 . Of the other ships, one each is to be assigned to the Pacific Fleet , the Black Sea Fleet and the Baltic Fleet .

The 95 meter long ship has a displacement of 4,000 tons. With a maximum speed of 16 knots, the Yuri Ivanov has a range of 8,000 nautical miles. There is a crew of 120 seafarers, reconnaissance technicians and GRU employees on board .

The main purpose of the Yuri Ivanov is to monitor US ships that are part of the Aegis combat system . Aegis is the maritime component of the American missile defense shield. The aim is to identify the gaps in this and other American systems and make them usable. The data will be forwarded to other Russian weapon carriers (submarines and ships) and are intended to make possible attacks with ICBMs on the American mainland.

The ship is armed with light anti-aircraft guns .

As part of the Northern Fleet, the ship patrols the Arctic Circle from the Severomorsk naval base .
