Justus Valentin Stemann

Justus Valentin Stemann (born June 27, 1629 in Copenhagen , † May 20, 1689 in Glückstadt ) was a German Protestant theologian .

Life

Justus Valentin Stemann, born in Copenhagen on June 27, 1629 as the son of the preacher Johannes Stemann, was trained at a grammar school in Hamburg , then he studied theology at the universities of Helmstedt and Wittenberg . At the latter he received the degree of Magister in 1652 . Three years later he was appointed pastor of the German-speaking community in Helsingør . However, when the city was besieged by the Danes in 1658, Stemann fled first to Copenhagen and from there to Rostock . He took the opportunity and was awarded a theological license at the university there . The University of Copenhagen hired him in 1686 as professor of theology . In the following year the University of Stemann awarded the theological doctorate . Another year later, in 1688, he followed a call to Glückstadt to become church councilor and general superintendent for Holstein . However, he died exactly one year after he took office on May 20, 1689, at the age of 59.
