Juttadinteria is a genus of plants fromthe afternoon flower family (Aizoaceae). The botanical name of the genus honors Jutta Dinter, the wife of the German botanist Kurt Dinter .

description

The plants of the genus Juttadinteria grow shrubby with three to five branches, each with six to eight leaves , and reach heights of up to 40 centimeters. The leaves are triangular, wide boat-shaped to almost linear. At the top they always end in a triangular keel. The leaf margins are smooth to toothed, the epidermis is smooth.

The white flowers are bractless and have four calyx tips . The stamens initially form a clear cone, which later develops into a cylinder. The dark green nectarium is designed as a ring.

The eight- (rarely up to twelve-) fanned capsule fruits are flat at the top and funnel-shaped at the base. Their fan covers are designed as narrow strips or short and never completely cover the capsule. They have wide, rectangular valve wings and no closure bodies. The papillary, pear-shaped seeds are brown and 0.7 to 1 millimeter long and 0.5 to 0.75 millimeters wide.

Systematics and distribution

The distribution area of the genus Juttadinteria extends in Namibia from Lüderitz in the west to Aus in the east and south to the far north of the South African province of Northern Cape . The plants grow on calcareous sand or loam and colonize plains or slopes. The amount of precipitation in winter is less than 100 millimeters.

The genus was first described in 1926 by Gustav Schwantes . The holotype is Juttadinteria simpsonii . According to Heidrun Hartmann (* 1942) the genus Juttadinteria includes the following species:

In a broader sense, the species of the genera Namibia and Dracophilus are also included in the genus Juttadinteria .
