Namibia is a plant kind from the family of aizoaceae (Aizoaceae). The botanical name of the genus is derived from its range, the dry Namib desert.

description

The plants of the Namibia genus grow compactly and form a more or less hemispherical body with up to 30 branches, each of which has two to three pairs of leaves. The thick leaves are triangular and have bulging edges. They are 20 to 30 millimeters long and 15 to 20 millimeters wide and thick. Their flaky, waxy surface is velvety. The outer epidermal wall contains a thick layer of crystal sand .

The single flowers have no bracts . There are five (rarely four to six) sepals of different sizes . Their petals are white to pink in color. The numerous upright stamens form a central column. The nectary is a clear dark green, coronary ring numerous pfriemliche carpels surrounds. The plants bloom in their homeland from June to October.

The 12 to 25 fabulous capsule fruits are similar to those of the genus Dracophilus . The seeds are ovate to elongated pear-shaped.

Systematics and distribution

The genus Namibia is distributed south of Lüderitz . The species grow in columns of dolomite rock or on slopes with various types of rock. The amount of precipitation is less than 100 millimeters per year.

The description as a subgenus of the genus Juttadinteria was made in 1926 by Gustav Schwantes . Together with Kurt Dinter , he established the genus Namibia in 1927 . The type species is Namibia cinerea . According to Heidrun Hartmann (* 1942) the genus Namibia includes the following two species:
