Köbes Underground is a music group in the Cologne carnival and house band of the alternative Cologne carnival event Stunksitzung . " Köbes " is the name of a Cologne brewery waiter , "Underground" is an homage to Nico Päffgen from Cologne , singer of Velvet Underground .

history

The band has been known by its current name since 1988, having previously changed it annually (among other things, it was called The Dead Lambsdorffs, Sister Christa and the Brinkmänner or Elmar goes to Lüdenscheid). After the band initially only appeared at the stunksitzung during the carnival session, they now have numerous other appearances, also outside of Cologne .

Köbes Underground specializes in cover versions of well-known pop and rock music melodies with new texts that refer to Cologne and some of them are also Kölsch . The musicians dress up for the individual numbers, play skits or dance in between. Their appearances, in which they parody the Cologne triumvirate , are particularly popular .

The band, whose musicians almost all pursue a “middle-class” profession on the side, performed several times with the WDR Funkhausorchester Köln in the Cologne Philharmonic under the motto “Classics Underground” .
