The sea rescue boat (SRB) Kaatje was a boat of the so-called 7-meter class of the German Society for the Rescue of Shipwrecked People (DGzRS). It was built in 1971 by the Evers shipyard in Niendorf under yard number 512.

The internal name was KRST 17.

Compared to the other boats of the first series of the 7 m class, the boat differed in that it had a continuous windshield. Before that, the boats had an oval porthole to the left and right of the electric sling disc .

The Kaatje , like all "real" boats of the 7 m class, had no radar. Only the Eltje II (ex Anna ; SRK Fritz Behrens ), Kaatje II (ex Mellum ; SRK Eiswette ) and the Max Carstensen owned radar devices . These boats, however, were boats that were partially built and used as daughter boats of the prototypes of the 23 m class ( Eltje and Kaatje ). The Max Carstensen corresponded 1: 1 to the 23-m class prototype daughter boats, but was used as a lifeboat from the start. For the sake of simplicity, these three boats have been assigned to the 7 m class.

Naming

Kaatje and Bruntje (the boat was renamed to this name in February 1990) are Frisian women's names. From August 1990, another renaming to the name Südperd took place , the designation of the landscape around the southern tip of the island of Rügen .

Technical Equipment

The lifeboat was equipped with radio systems, echo sounder , GPS , external bilge pump and a rescue port.

Stationings

The Kaatje was stationed in Hörnum on the island of Sylt from July 31, 1971 . In September 1975 it was relocated to Langballigau until April 24, 1977. Then the longest continuous service time of this boat took place in Damp , from April 24, 1977 to 1984. In 1985 the boat came back to the North Sea and was in Fedderwardersiel until 1989. Den The boat spent the remainder of its service life in the Baltic Sea again - under the new name Bruntje - in Puttgarden from February 1990 . As early as July 1990, the station was again relocated to Thiessow on the southern tip of the island of Rügen. The name was changed to Südperd one month later, in August 1990. The transfer from Thiessow to Lauterbach took place on September 29, 1991, where the boat was until June 1993. Then the boat was used as a reserve unit for a while until it was relocated to the last stationing place Schilksee in May 1994 . The active service of this boat ended there in September 1999.

Since October 1999 the SRB has been exhibited as a museum boat in front of the lighthouses in Cape Arkona on Rügen.
