Kadri Voorand (born November 18, 1986 in Haljalas ) is an Estonian musician ( vocals , composition ) in the range between jazz , folk and pop music .

Live and act

Kadri Voorand comes from a family of folk musicians and grew up listening to traditional Estonian music. It is influenced by the Nordic runo singing and its textual and melodic improvisation. At the age of five she began to study classical piano, and when she was six she wrote her first songs. She played early as a violinist in her mother's folk ensemble. As a teenager she formed an a cappella band, for which she also composed and arranged. She studied at the Estonian Music and Theater Academy and the Royal Music Academy in Stockholm. She was named "Young Cultural Personality of the Year" by Estonian President Kersti Kaljulaid ; she also received the "Estonian Music Award".

In 2010 Voorand took part in the recordings of Anthony Branker & Ascent in New York; in the following years she worked a. a. with Tanel Ruben , the Tormis Quartet ( Tormisele - Hommage to Veljo Tormis , 2017) and with the Ensemble Tõnu Kaljuste / Tõnu Kõrvits / Anja Lechner and with Tõnu Kõrvits and the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra ( Mirror , ECM). She also performed in a duo with bassist (and guitarist) Mihkel Mälgand. After her debut album Kosmogooniline etüüd (Sheikid), her album Armupurjus was released in 2018 ; In 2020 Voorand released her album In Duo with Mihkel Mälgand in Germany ( ACT ).
