Ober- / Niederwinzer-Kager
Ober- / Niederwinzer-Kager is district 16 of the independent city of Regensburg . The district is in the north of the city, north of the Danube and west of the A93. With only 965 inhabitants, it is the smallest urban district in terms of population and has a strong rural character: the area is almost as large as that of Neuprüll-Kumpfmühl-Ziegetsberg with a twentieth of the population.
Upper and lower winemakers owe their names to viticulture. These are the oldest vineyards in old Bavaria that have been documented in writing . On April 1, 1924, the municipality of Winzer was incorporated into the city of Regensburg with the areas of Oberwinzer, Niederwinzer and Kager; until then it belonged to the Stadtamhof district office .
The northernmost point of the Danube is located in the district . In Winzer on the north bank of the Danube there is a statue of St. Nicholas, dedicated to the patron of the parish church St. Nikolaus . On the opposite bank on the city side in the western part of Regensburg near the Schillerwiese , the northernmost point is marked by a work of art visible to the vintner.
Churches
- Parish Church of St. Nikolaus in Niederwinzer
- Side and pilgrimage church of St. Michael in Kager
- Maria Tannerl field and pilgrimage chapel: The small field chapel on the hill from Kareth to Tremmelhauserhöhe was built in 1713 and renovated in 1982. The original miraculous image of the Virgin Mary is now in the church of St. Michael von Regensburg-Kager, approx. 2 km southwest of the chapel. The chapel is a gable roof building with a basket arched opening. Around 1650 the site of today's chapel was still forested. The image of the Virgin, which was then hanging on a fir tree, gave its name to the later "Maria Tannerl" chapel. The chapel, originally built as a plague chapel, later became a pilgrimage chapel for the citizens of Kareth as a vow after storms.
