from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kaija and Heikki Sirén were a Finnish couple of architects, consisting of Kaija Sirén (* October 23, 1920 , † January 15, 2001 ) and Heikki Sirén (* October 5, 1918 , † February 25, 2013 ).

Live and act

After studying architecture, Heikki Sirén worked for his father Johan Sigfrid Sirén . In 1944 he married Katri (Kaija) Tuominen, and in 1948 they both founded a joint architecture office. Their designs were initially determined by Alvar Aalto and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe . They combined Finnish building tradition, preferably made of wood, with simple and elegant construction; also called Scandinavian rationalism.
