Kailua Beach

With 38,635 inhabitants (2010), Kailua is the largest town on the east coast of the island of Oahu in Honolulu County in the American state of Hawaii . It is administered by the Koʻolaupoko district . It is located directly on the sea and is best known for its beach (Kailua Beach). But it is also a commercial center with many shops and boutiques. The Kailua Beach area is O'ahu's most expensive residential area outside of Honolulu . Kailua is about 25 km from downtown Honolulu.

Name origin

In the Hawaiian language , Kailua means two seas or two currents . The word Kailua is a combination of the words Kai (meaning: sea, sea water, tides) and ʻelua (meaning: two). The meaning is twofold: There are two lagoons and two currents in Kailua Beach in the district.

climate

In Kailua, dry weather is predominant. The annual rainfall does not reach 200 mm. This is particularly noteworthy because the neighboring town of Kāneʻohe records an annual rainfall of 1344 mm.
