Kalanchoe aromatica is a species of the genus Kalanchoe in the thick-leaf family(Crassulaceae).

Vegetative characteristics

Kalanchoe aromatica is an aromatic, perennial , herbaceous , tuft-forming plant that reaches heights of 30 to 60 centimeters and is completely covered with red, long, sticky-glandular hair . Their numerous, more or less square, fleshy shoots are upright and reddish. The fleshy leaves are petiolate. The slender petiole is 1.5 to 3 inches long. Your green, triangular-lanceolate, oblong lanceolate to egg-shaped leaf blade is 2.5 to 15 inches long and 1.5 to 5 inches wide. There are black or brown spots in the corners. Its tip is pointed. The leaf margin is serrated and serrated. Old leaves are often in three parts.

Generative characteristics

The inflorescence consists of dense panicles and is up to 30 centimeters long. The upright, spread out or hanging flowers are on 2 to 7 millimeter long flower stalks . The calyx is green to yellowish, the calyx tube 2 to 4 millimeters long. The triangular, pointed, thorn-pointed calyx lobes have a length of 2 to 2.5 millimeters. The corolla is urn-shaped. The cylindrical, white or yellow-green corolla tube is 6.5 to 10 millimeters long. Their recurved, egg-shaped, blunt corolla lobes have an attached tip. They have a length of 5 to 9 millimeters and are 2.5 millimeters wide. The corolla lobes are yellow-green with reddish lines or pink-white. The stamens are attached about in the middle or below the middle of the corolla tube and all protrude long from the flower. The linear nectar flakes have a length of 1.5 to 2 millimeters and are about 0.3 millimeters wide. The carpel has a length of 6 to 7 millimeters. The stylus is 7 to 8 millimeters long.

The obovate seeds reach a length of about 0.5 millimeters.

Systematics and distribution

Kalanchoe aromatica is common in central Madagascar on rocky slopes.

The first description by Henri Perrier de La Bâthie was published in 1923. A distinction is made between the following varieties :
