description

Vegetative characteristics

Kalanchoe fadeniorum is probably a perennial , bare, herbaceous plant that reaches heights of about 10 centimeters. The branched shoots are prostrate-creeping. Upright shoot parts are leafy. The fleshy leaves are almost sessile or have a short stalk. The half-stem-encompassing leaf stalk is up to 5 millimeters long. The green, almost circular, broadly ovate or obovate leaf blade is 1.5 to 5 inches long and 1.3 to 4 inches wide. Its tip is blunt, the base is narrowed. The leaf margin is entire or serrate-notched.

Generative characteristics

The inflorescence is a compound Zyme and reaches a length of 6 to 7 centimeters and is just as wide. The upright flowers are on 3 to 4 millimeter long peduncles . Your calyx tube is about 0.5 millimeters long. The triangular calyx lobes are 2 to 2.5 millimeters long and about 1 millimeter wide. The pale reddish yellow-brown petals in the lower part are reddish above. The cylindrical, somewhat square corolla-tube is slightly inflated below the middle and 13 to 14 millimeters long. Their elliptical corolla lobes are 9 to 10 millimeters long and 3.5 to 4 millimeters wide. The stamens are attached above the center of the corolla tube and do not protrude from the flower. The elongated anthers are about 0.7 millimeters long. The linear nectar flakes are 2 to 2.5 millimeters long. The stalked, cylindrical-lanceolate carpel has a length of 10 to 11.5 millimeters. The stylus is about 2 millimeters long.

The elongated egg-shaped seeds reach a length of about 0.6 millimeters.

Systematics and distribution

Kalanchoe fadeniorum is widespread in the south-west of Kenya in semi-evergreen thickets on sandy soils at heights of 360 meters.

The first description by Edith Marie Raadts was published in 1979.
