Coat of arms of those of Kalben

Kalben (lat. De Calve ; in Lübeck also from Calven ) is the name of an old noble family from Brandenburg . It derives its name from Kalbe Castle an der Milde in the Altmark . In the Middle Ages, the family connected with the urban patriciate of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck over several generations.

history

The family first appears in a document on February 4, 1207 with Ebel de Calve and his sons under the men of Margrave Albrecht II as witnesses at Salzwedel Castle . The uninterrupted line of trunks begins with Reyner von Calven , † in Lübeck 1421, who was wealthy in the Altmark in 1375 and moved to Lübeck . There he became a councilor and member of the circle society .

From the Middle Ages to 1945 the family is documented in the area between Stendal and Kalbe (Milde) through agricultural property. It provided councilors and mayors in Stendal in the 13th and 14th centuries and branched out to Lübeck in the last quarter of the 14th century, where the first Lübeck councilor from the family was also accepted into the noble circle society .
