Kam Tong

Kam Tong (born December 18, 1906 in San Francisco , California - † November 8, 1969 in Costa Mesa , California) was an American actor of Chinese descent.

Life

Tong began his career in the mid-1930s. He made his feature film debut in an uncredited role as a house servant in Lewis Milestone's adventure film The General Died at Dawn . Further small roles followed until the 1950s, in which he portrayed Chinese, Japanese and Filipinos . From the mid-1950s he was also seen on television. He gained fame among US television audiences in his role as bellhop Hey Boy in the western series Have Gun - Will Travel , which he played in 109 episodes between 1957 and 1963. Besides Richard Boone, he was the only permanent cast member on the series.

In the 1960s he was a guest star in several other western series such as The People of Shiloh Ranch and Bonanza, as well as other successful series formats. He had a major supporting role in 1967 in the action film Nitro on the side of Jack Palance , Fernando Lamas and Aldo Ray . He was also seen in 1963 alongside Elvis Presley and Gary Lockwood as Uncle Walter Ling in the musical comedy Ob blond - ob braun . He had his last appearance in 1969 in an episode of the Big Valley series , he died in November of the same year.
