Kamel Fathi Ghilas (born March 9, 1984 in Marseille ) is a former Algerian football player .
Career
France
Ghilas played in the youth teams of FC Martigues until he was 19 . He then played for ES Vitrolles for two years , before leaving for Cannes , a club in France's third division . Ghilas was able to quickly establish himself as a regular player, so that he made 18 appearances in his first season. In the 2004/2005 season he was the most successful goalscorer of his team with seven goals in 31 games. The following year he was able to expand his goal haul when he scored 13 goals. Still, the team missed promotion to Ligue 2 , as they stayed two points behind third place, which is why Ghilas signed a two-year deal with Vitória Guimarães in the Portuguese second Liga de Honra .
Vitória Guimarães
Twelve goals in 29 games ensured that Ghilas was elected to the team of the best players at the end of the season, and that his team was able to move into the first division due to the second place. In the following season, the club surprisingly came third, which was enough for the qualifying phase of the Champions League. Despite this success, the end of the season was overshadowed by a dispute between Ghilas and the club. Ghilas, whose contract expired at the end of the summer, expressed intentions to change, which is why the club presented him with a new contract - on improved terms - which was rejected, which is why he left the club for Celta Vigo for free .
Celta Vigo
On July 12, 2008, Vigo announced Ghila's engagement; he signed a three-year contract. In the first win of the season on September 28, 2008 against Tenerife , he scored two goals for a 2-1 win. At the end of the season, he was the club's most successful goalscorer with 13 goals. This was not hidden from various clubs, which is why the Blackburn Rovers made an offer that was accepted by Vigo. However, the transfer failed at the last minute due to problems with the medical check.
Hull City
On August 13, 2009 the change finally came about, but not in the direction of Blackburn, but in the direction of Hull City. Ghilas passed the medical check without any problems and signed a four-year contract. On August 22, 2009, Ghilas scored his first goal for Hull against Bolton Wanderers on assist by Jozy Altidore , after he was in the starting lineup for the first time. The game ended 1-0.
France & Belgium
In 2010, Hull City loaned the striker to the French first division promoted AC Arles-Avignon . After the team had to return to Ligue 2 in 2011, Kamel Ghilas was loaned to their league rivals Stade Reims . In the Champagne he found his way back to his old playing strength under coach Hubert Fournier and was one of the most successful goal scorers in the second division this season . After Reims' promotion to the first division (2012) he came there less and less used; In January 2014, the club gave Ghilas to the Belgian first division Sporting Charleroi .
End of career
When his contract in Charleroi expired in the summer of 2014, Ghilas had been without a club for over a year and a half before joining Dubai SC in the UAE Arabian Gulf League in January 2016 . There he was used a total of six times and ended his active career after the season.
National team
Although Ghilas was born in France and also has French citizenship, he plays for Algeria. On June 2, 2007 Ghilas made his debut in the qualifier for the Africa Cup against Cape Verde . Five months later, he scored his first goal in a 3-2 win in the friendly against Mali . After two years of neglect, the attacker made his 17th international match against the Central African Republic in October 2011 .
Others
His brother Nabil , who was six years younger than him, was also an Algerian national player (8 caps / 2 goals).
