Career

society

Ghilas began his career with the amateur club Burel FC in Marseille . In 2009 he joined the French fourth division club SO Cassis Carnoux .

A year later, at the age of 20, the native French left his hometown and moved to Moreirense FC from the Segunda Liga . The transfer included the immediate loan to FC Vizela in the Campeonato Nacional de Seniores , the third highest league in Portugal . A season later, the striker returned to Moreira de Cónegos , where he was promoted to the Primeira Liga with Moreirense FC . In the 2012/13 season Ghilas was used in all 30 league games, scoring 13 goals. Nevertheless, the immediate relegation followed.

In July 2013, the reigning champions FC Porto announced the commitment of the attacker for a transfer fee of an estimated 3.8 million euros. Ghilas signed a four-year deal that includes an exit clause of 30 million euros. When he played for the first time on matchday five, he was substituted on for Licá in stoppage time. The game at GD Estoril Praia ended 2-2. Ghilas scored his first goal in a 2-1 home win in the cup against the same opponent. The striker only came into play in the 83rd minute and scored the decisive goal four minutes later. Three weeks later, the Ghilas was able to secure the advance of the northern Portuguese to the second round with a goal in the final phase of the Europa League game against Eintracht Frankfurt . His first and so far only goal in the Portuguese elite class scored Ghilas on matchday 26 in a 3-1 home win against Académica de Coimbra . In the same game he prepared another hit.

For the 2014/15 season, Ghilas moved on loan to FC Córdoba and for the 2015/16 season to UD Levante .

In the summer transfer period 2016/17 he was signed by the Turkish first division club Gaziantepspor . After this club missed the relegation of the Süper Lig in the summer of 2107, Ghilas moved together with his teammate Doğanay Kılıç to the new first division club Göztepe Izmir .

He has been under contract with Vitória Setúbal in Portugal since summer 2019 .

National team

Although Ghilas was born in France and also has French citizenship, he plays for Algeria. The offensive player was first appointed to the Algerian national soccer team in March 2013 , but was not used. The striker made his international debut in the World Cup qualifier against Benin . He scored the goal of the 3-1 final score in the away triumph at Stade Charles de Gaulle after he had previously been substituted for Islam Slimani . In a friendly against Armenia , the selection player was able to mark another goal for his nation. National coach Vahid Halilhodžić finally appointed him to the 23-man squad for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil .

Style of play

The right-footed attacker is best suited for the center forward position, but can also be used on the wings. His beefy body enables him to hold the ball. Although he lacks training at a top club, he has good tactical positional play. Despite his stature, Ghilas has an explosive appearance. With his placed, hard shots, he always radiates goal danger. The striker is also ready to do defensive work. Among fans, Ghilas is nicknamed The New Benzema , a reference to the French international Karim Benzema, who is also of Algerian descent .
Algerian national coach Vahid Halilhodžić said of him: “He is an interesting player that we have been watching for a while. He's a complete player. But he has to keep working to improve. Its potential is still great. It's a player of the future. "

Personal

The roots of Ghilas lie in the Algerian port city of Bejaia . His parents emigrated to Marseille well before he was born . His brother Kamel , who was six years older than him, was also an Algerian national player.
