The Zámecký vrch (German Castle Hill ) is a striking mountain with a height of 529.6 m in the Bohemian Central Uplands in the Czech Republic , crowned by the ruins of the Gothic castle Kamenický hrad ( Castle Kempnitz , also Kampnitz ).

Origin of the name

The mountain got its name after the castle on the summit, which was also known earlier as a castle .

Castle history

Castle ruins with a lookout tower

The castle was founded probably at the beginning of the 15th century, possibly to 1441 after the destruction of the nearby castle Fredevald ( Fred Ewald ). It was first mentioned in documents as the new Kamnitz Castle in 1442, when the castle was unsuccessfully besieged by the Upper Lusatian Union of Six Cities. Presumably, the castle will then be conquered and destroyed in another siege by the six cities in 1444.

Typical block field on the south side

The castle is only mentioned in a document again in 1515 when the rule of Heinrich von Wartenberg was sold to the brothers Hans, Wolf and Friedrich von Saalhausen (noble family) . Presumably it was rebuilt after all and then used again until the middle of the 16th century. In 1614 the castle is mentioned as desolate. In the Thirty Years' War , however, it regained military importance. In 1639 the castle was set on fire by the Swedes and finally destroyed. In the following centuries the ruin is for building materials, so that today only the powerful, rectangular Palas is received.

In 1880 the ruin was secured by the Bohemian-Kamnitzer Beautification Association . A castle restaurant with an observation tower will be set up in the remains of the palace. After the Second World War , the castle restaurant fell into disrepair and the observation tower collapsed. In the years 1995/96 the masonry of the ruin was secured and in 1998 a new wooden observation tower was built into the hall at the historical site.

Location and surroundings

The Zámecký vrch is located in the ChKO České středohoří (LSG Bohemian Central Mountains) in the transition area between the Lusatian Mountains , Bohemian Switzerland and the Bohemian Central Mountains . The small town of Česká Kamenice ( Bohemian Kamnitz ) and the small towns of Huníkov ( Henne ) and Vesnička ( Füllerdörfel ) are right at the foot of the mountain .

view

A very comprehensive view is possible from the tower. In the north is the rock and forest landscape of Saxon-Bohemian Switzerland , further east it goes over into the Lusatian Mountains . Striking mountains in the field of view are the projecting mesa Děčínský Sněžník ( High snow mountain ), the tapered RŮŽOVSKÝ VRCH ( Rosenberg ) and the powerful Studenec ( Coldberg ). In the southwest the view sweeps over the mountain landscape of the Bohemian Central Uplands with the Buková hora ( Zinkenstein ) crowned by a television station ,
