Polish Radio Chamber Orchestra "Amadeus"

The Polish Radio Chamber Orchestra "Amadeus" (Polish Orkiestra Kameralna Polskiego Radia "Amadeus" ) was founded in Poznan in 1968 by the conductor Agnieszka Duczmal .

The orchestra originally operated under the patronage of Jeunesses Musicales International ; after that it was sponsored by the Poznan Musical Society.

In 1977 the orchestra was taken over by the Polish Radio and renamed the Chamber Orchestra of the Polish Radio "Amadeus" .

From the beginning, the orchestra has performed on concert tours in Poland and abroad. In 1976 the orchestra in West Berlin was awarded a Herbert von Karajan silver medal at the international meeting of youth orchestras .

“Amadeus” visited almost every country in Europe and the USA , Canada , Mexico , Brazil , Kuwait , Taiwan and Japan .

Well-known soloists such as Maurice André , Gary Karr , Henryk Szeryng , Martha Argerich , Mischa Maisky , Gheorghe Zamfir , Håkan Hardenberger , Michala Petri and Vadim Repin performed with the orchestra .

The orchestra provided over 9,000 minutes of sound recordings for the Polish Radio Archives, 110 concerts for the Polish state television and 5 hours for Télévision Française. 46 CDs were recorded, including many premieres, such as Johann Sebastian Bach's Goldberg Variations , arranged by Józef Koffler for a chamber orchestra. The orchestra also provides sound recordings of mostly Polish music for NDR , WDR , BBC and CBC .

On concert tours, the orchestra is u. a. Performed at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw , the Philharmonics in Berlin , Cologne , Munich , Saint Petersburg , the Dresden Gewandhaus , the Wiener Musikvereinsaal and the Teatro alla Scala in Milan .
