The Morávka-Žermanice Canal (Czech přivaděč Morávka - Žermanice ) is a water supply canal in the Czech Republic . It leads water from the Morávka into the Lučina and serves to supply the Žermanice dam .
course
At the foot of the Moravian-Silesian Beskids at the weir north of Raškovice, the canal branches off to the right from the Morávka. Via Vyšní Lhoty , its course initially leads northwest over the basin of the Osiník brook, where it turns westwards following the course of the Isohypsen and leads into the Račok basin, through which it leads north between the Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Czech and Bukovice premises . There the canal is bridged by the Frýdek-Místek - Český Těšín railway and the R 48 expressway . After 9.3 kilometers the canal joins the Lučina in Vojkovice .
On the run through the Račok or Holčina valley, the flow speed of the canal is reduced by high concrete weirs.
history
After the Žermanice reservoir was created between 1951 and 1957 to supply water to the industrial region of Ostrava, it became clear that the dammed, arid river Lučina could not meet the water demand. In 1959, a canal from the Morávka was built through the Beskid foothills to feed water into the Lučina.
