The canton of Oberland was a Swiss canton that existed at the time of the Helvetic Republic (1798 to 1803) and included the area of ​​the Bernese Oberland .

After French troops marched in in 1798, the old order in the canton of Bern collapsed , and the Vaud , the Oberland and the Unteraargau were separated from its territory . Since there was no strong separatist tendency in the Oberland and the population was rather conservative, enthusiasm for the new canton remained low. In 1801, the Malmaison constitution stipulated that the Oberland should again belong to the Canton of Bern. However, the following two years were marked by turmoil and coups d'état and the order of the Helvetic Republic practically collapsed. The mediation act of 1803 resulted in the definitive reunification of the Oberland with the Canton of Bern.
