action

Arianna is an actress in a vaudeville troupe and is traveling with her colleague Diego Carras in the West looking for engagements. You take part in a wagon train funded by the wealthy rancher Evans. The leader of the squad takes them to the landowner Butler, who leaves them an old abandoned mine.

Butler pursues quite different interests; he kills Diego and draws suspicion on Evans, and he also ensnares Arianna, who, unaware of his machinations, gives in to his advertising. When, years later, she learns the truth, she goes in search of Evans. He got married in the meantime; Arianna will continue her life in solitude.

criticism

Guglielmina Setti wrote in February 1942: “A well-made film has the grave mistake of being set in a distant and exotic region; because then our producers easily run the risk of it becoming very melodramatic, and this risk was far too strong for this film. "

Giuseppe De Santis on the film: “Koch lacks the courage to let the film play among our local ranchers, the Buteri, and thus make the story more realistic. The most irritating things about this film are the cardboard backgrounds and the generally somewhat baroque atmosphere. However, we cannot deny Koch serious commitment. "

Remarks

Director Koch operated under the Italianized first name Carlo. The outdoor shots took place in Ciociaria , indoor shots in the sets of the production company.
