Cardinal King Prize

The Cardinal König Prize has been awarded since 1991 by the foundation “ Communio et Progressio - New Hope for the Danube Region” founded by the former Archbishop of Vienna , Cardinal Franz König . The prize is awarded to personalities who have contributed to the formation of an alliance of action between science, religion, business and the media in order to contribute to overcoming global problems in the field of freedom of expression and conscience, justice, peace and the preservation of the Creation and the general development of human society.

Meditative art

Before 1991 there was already another Cardinal König Prize, which was awarded by the Archbishop of Vienna in conjunction with the Institute for Sacred Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna to artists who dealt with meditative art:

1966: Hubert Pfaffenbichler , artist, for sacred art
1977: Wolfgang Sinwel , artist, for meditative painting
1976: Peter Hasler , artist, for the design of a meditation room
1975: Martina Funder , artist; Klaus Nötzberger , architect and Richard Frankenberger , artist
1971: Gottfried Helnwein , artist
