Karel Krejčí (born December 20, 1968 in Karviná ) is a former Czech football player and current coach .

Player career

Krejčí started playing football in Sušice . At the age of 17, the defensive player moved to Škoda Pilsen . After a season, Krejčí went to VTJ Tábor to do his military service there. In Tábor he only trained. Was used at VTJ Jindřichův Hradec, which acted as a kind of B-team of VTJ Tábor. Krejčí spent the second year of his army service with VTJ Písek.

Then the defender returned to Pilsen . At first he hardly played there, only in 1991/92 and 1992/93 he was used more often. In mid-1993 contract negotiations failed, Krejčí switched to FC Svit Zlín , who had just been promoted to the first division . In the summer of 1995 Krejčí was obliged by the then second division club FC Příbram , which later merged with Dukla Prague . In the 1996/97 season Dukla rose to the first division.

Krejčí moved again from the first to the second division in mid-1998 and joined the SK České Budějovice . With two goals in ten games, he contributed to the rise of the team. However, Krejčí tore a cruciate ligament and was absent for nine months. In his last professional season 1999/2000 , he played only one top division game.

Coaching career

As a player at FC Příbram, Krejčí looked after the local youth team. At SK České Budějovice he was assistant to the B team. From 2000 to 2007 Krejčí worked again in Příbram . There he was a youth coach, coach of the B-team, assistant to the A-team and coordinator of the junior department. For the 2007/08 season he was coach of the A-Juniors of FC Viktoria Plzen , in April 2008 he took over the professional team until the end of the season after Stanislav Levy was dismissed . Then he worked again as an assistant under Pavel Vrba . Up until the 2012/13 season he won the championship twice as assistant coach to Viktoria.

At the beginning of 2014, Krejčí became Vrba's assistant in the Czech national team . After the European Championships in 2016 , both left the association. At the same time, he had replaced Miroslav Koubek as head coach of Viktoria Plzen in August 2015 . He won the 2016 championship with the club . He then left Pilsen. He has been the coach of the Czech U-20 national team since the beginning of 2017 .
