Karin Hackl (born June 14, 1989 in Admont ) is a former Austrian ski racer . She initially started in all disciplines and, after injuries, concentrated mainly on the giant slalom from 2011 onwards . Hackl was a member of the Austrian Ski Association (ÖSV) squad until 2012 , won the overall and giant slalom classification of the European Cup in the 2008/09 season , was one of the fastest 15 in the World Cup and won two medals at the 2009 Junior World Championship .

biography

In December 2004 Hackl took part in her first FIS races , and from November 2007 she played in the European Cup . She became known to a wider public when she became Austrian junior champion in the Super-G in January 2008 and three months later reached fourth place at the state championships in giant slalom . In the 2008/09 European Cup season , she won three giant slalom races and thus secured victory in the overall standings and the giant slalom discipline. At the Austrian Championships in 2009 she was third in the giant slalom.

On December 28th, 2008 Hackl had her premiere in the Ski World Cup : She finished 25th in the giant slalom in Semmering and thus got her first World Cup points. At the Junior World Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in 2009 , she was second in the combination and third in the giant slalom. In addition, she managed to move up from the B to the A squad of the ÖSV.

In the 2009/10 season she was allowed to start in numerous World Cup races. After failing to score in the first races, she achieved her best World Cup result on January 16, 2010 at the giant slalom in Maribor with 14th place. However, this was her only point win of the winter, whereupon she was relegated to the B-squad. In the spring of 2010 Hackl suffered a severe injury with a compression fracture and a tear in the patellar tendon , after which she had to pause for five months. She started again in FIS and European Cup races from November 2010, but had to end the 2010/11 season in January due to a ruptured cruciate ligament . After she made it onto the podium in two FIS races in the winter of 2011/12, but again remained without points in the European Cup, Hackl was released from the ÖSV squad in spring 2012. At the end of November 2012, she announced her retirement from ski racing.
