At 1738  m, the Karkopf is the highest peak in the entire Lattengebirge . It lies exactly on the border between the municipality of Schneizlreuth in the west and the municipality of Bischofswiesen (district Bischofswiesener Forst ) in the east.

The mountain is a popular hiking area due to the good visibility over the entire mountain range. Untersberg , Hoher Göll and Watzmann can be seen in the south, Zwiesel and Hochstaufen in the north. You can climb the summit from different sides, e.g. B. over the Predigtstuhl or over the Törlschneid from Winkl. The ascent via the Alpgartensteig has a slight via ferrata character with a few ladders, stairs and safety ropes . The path is only suitable for experienced mountain hikers, as you have to be free from giddiness and sure-footed. From the summit you can hike to the mountain station of the Predigtstuhlbahn and from there take the cable car to Bad Reichenhall. It is also possible to walk to the Stone Agnes and the Rotofen .
