Karl-Heinz Balzer (born February 5, 1929 - † November 11, 1991 ) was a German football player .

Athletic career

Balzer started playing soccer at FC Schalke 04 . In 1946 the goalkeeper Eintracht Frankfurt joined the Oberliga Süd . Before the start of the championship, he won the Great Hessian Cup with the club on September 22nd of that year with a 3-2 final win over local rivals Rot-Weiss Frankfurt after goals from Georg Muth and the twice successful Rudolf Motsch . At the season opener against FC Bayern Munich a week later he guarded the goal of the Hessians as well as on the third matchday against TSV Schwaben Augsburg . In the further course of the season, however, Hans Ricker prevailed as a regular goalkeeper at the SGE, which finished the season as third in the table. He then moved within the league to the Stuttgarter Kickers . There were four different goalkeepers in the league season 1947/48 with Helmut Jahn , Gerhard Bechtold , Walter Mattheis and Hanno Schnell over the entire season, but Balzer remained in the championship without playing time. In view of the sources, it is unclear whether he won the final defeat for the Württemberg club cup in June 1949 against TSG Ulm 1846 for the eventual world champion goalkeeper Toni Turek .

In the summer of 1949 Balzer switched to the amateur field at ASV Durlach , with whom he rose to the 2nd Division in 1950 . There he stayed until relegation in 1955 as the goalkeeper of the team that had achieved their best result in the second division season 1951/52 as fifth in the table. During this time he ran a tote acceptance point in Pfinztalstrasse in Durlach, which Egon Stehlik had previously also run.

He then returned to first division football and joined Bremerhaven 93, last year's runner-up in the Oberliga Nord . Here he trained with Robert Gebhardt and Oswald Pfau, among others . In 1963 he reached with the team as 13th in the final classification with two points ahead of Altona 93, the direct qualification for the Regionalliga Nord , in which he was active until 1966.

Nothing is known about Balzer's further life.
