Karl-Heinz Fitzal

Karl-Heinz Fitzal (born September 13, 1945 in Rohrendorf near Krems , Lower Austria , Austria ) was in command of the Theresian Military Academy of the Austrian Armed Forces from 1999 to 2003 , most recently in the rank of general .

Life

Karl-Heinz Fitzal joined the Austrian Armed Forces after graduating in 1963 and completed officer training at the Theresian Military Academy in Wiener Neustadt . He was then transferred to the 11th Panzer Grenadier Battalion in Mautern an der Donau . From 1968 to 1972 he was a training officer of an armored infantry company and platoon commander , later from 1972 to 1975 company commander .

After completing his general staff training at the 8th general staff course at the National Defense Academy in Vienna , he worked in various staff positions, e. B. as chief of staff of the 3rd Panzer Grenadier Brigade . From 1986 to 1992 he commanded the 3rd Panzer Grenadier Brigade. Afterwards he headed the training group in Section III of the Federal Ministry for National Defense . Here he was significantly involved in the restructuring of the academies and schools for NCO and officer training, the so-called training reform 92.

On September 13, 1999, Defense Minister Werner Fasslabend appointed Karl-Heinz Fitzal to succeed Corps Commander Adolf-Erwin Felber as the new commander of the Theresian Military Academy in Wiener Neustadt. He officially took over command on September 23, 1999. On November 29, 2003, he handed over this command of the Theresian Military Academy to his successor, Major General Norbert Sinn .
