Karl-Heinz Haag (born February 20, 1929 in Meerbeck near Moers , † August 28, 1959 ) was a German weightlifter .

Career

Haag was a gymnast and track and field athlete even as a teenager . In 1947 he started lifting weights. Initially, he also did wrestling and artistic strength sports. While he soon gave up wrestling, he remained loyal to weight training alongside weightlifting. He was also very successful in this and won the German championship in the 2-Perche group several times as Untermann with various partners.

In weightlifting, Haag began to have its first successes on a regional level from 1947 and soon also on a German level. Things rose steeply when Otto Uhlenbruch took over his training in 1954. He won his first of a total of three German championships in 1955. At the world championships in which he participated, he finished well in the middle. Karl-Heinz Haag was an independent master craftsman and often had to sacrifice his training for his job. Nevertheless, he reached almost 400 kg in the Olympic three-way fight. In 1958 he fell seriously ill and died in 1959.
