Anton Leuthe (born November 21, 1922 in Singen ) is a former German weightlifter .

Career

Anton (Toni) Leuthe started lifting weights at the age of 16. He came from Singen / Hohentwiel and learned the trade of a tool fitter there. a. also exercised in Switzerland . The war and the post-war period inhibited his athletic development, so that he first made a name for himself in 1950, when he, as a member of SV Fellbach, scored 315 kg in a friendly match against the Swedish national team in the lightweight (up to 67.5 kg body weight) and only just lost to the Swede Persson, who achieved 317.5 kg. In 1951 he caused a bang when he set three new German records in Thalwil / Switzerland with 107.5 kg in the snatch, 135 kg in the push and 345 kg in the Olympic three-way fight. However, he was never able to confirm these achievements, with which he would have been among the absolute best in the world. Toni Leuthe remained active until 1960 and from 1953 raised in the middle weight (up to 75 kg body weight). In terms of performance, he was roughly on par with the German top lifters of the late 1930s. This level was no longer sufficient for international success.
