In 1972, Rehkopf and Rainer Wunderlich founded the "Carpet Domain Harste" in Harste on a former estate, from which he developed a discounter for home textiles and renovation needs under the current name of Tedox with more than 100 branches and around 3000 employees over more than 45 years .

In 2009, Rehkopf founded the Kornhaus cultural foundation based in Einbeck and, through this sponsor, to which he provided around 40 million euros from his private assets, initiated the PS-Speicher , which five years later began in 2014 with a classic car collection, initially comprising around 2000 exhibits. Collection presented.

After Rehkopf as a private person "[...] had also invested considerable sums in the preservation of architectural monuments ", he was awarded the Cross of Merit 1st Class of the Lower Saxony Order of Merit by Lower Saxony's Prime Minister Stephan Weil in August 2016 in the wedding room of the PS Speicher . Weil, who had already opened the PS exhibition building in 2014, honored the "[...] long-standing, outstanding contribution to the community " by Karl-Heinz Rehkopf, who stood up for the "[...] country, its people and deserved its culture ”. For example, the honoree was committed to maintaining the citizens' hospital and to the Einbecker Sonnenberg seminar and guest house , which was founded as a social enterprise in Negenborn (Einbeck) and which also employs disabled people. The "Sch (l) aufenster" campaign initiated by Rehkopf, which beautifies vacant shops, would also find imitators across the region.

On his 80th birthday on December 7, 2016, Karl-Heinz Rehkopf received the highest honor in the city of Einbeck in front of around 500 guests in the PS Hall. Due to his outstanding services to the city of Einbeck, Mayor Sabine Michalek Rehkopf awarded the first ring of honor awarded by the city. Among the well-wishers present was the President of the Lower Saxony State Parliament, Bernd Busemann .

Rehkopf has two sons and a daughter from their first marriage. After another wife, he married the Berlin-born art historian Gabriele Rehkopf-Adt around 2004.
