Karl (Hessen-Philippsthal-Barchfeld)
Karl August Philipp Ludwig von Hessen-Philippsthal-Barchfeld (born June 27, 1784 in Barchfeld , † July 17, 1854 in Philippsthal ) was Landgrave of Hessen-Philippsthal-Barchfeld from the House of Hesse .
Life
Karl was a son of Landgrave Adolf von Hessen-Philippsthal-Barchfeld (1743-1803) from his marriage to Luise (1752-1805), daughter of Duke Anton Ulrich von Sachsen-Meiningen . He followed his father in 1803 as Landgrave of Hessen-Philippsthal-Barchfeld. Initially in Prussian service, he switched to Russian military service and fought on the Russian side in the Napoleonic wars , including the battle of Borodino , where he saved the life of his seriously injured brother Ernst .
After he retired from Russian military service, he was promoted to lieutenant general in the service of the Electorate of Hesse in 1836 . Karl later lived at Augustenau Castle in Herleshausen .

Karl married on July 19, 1816 Öhringen first wife Auguste (1793 to 1821), daughter of Prince Friedrich Ludwig of Hohenlohe-Ingelfingen, with whom he had the following children:

His second wife was Sophie (1794–1873) in Steinfurt on September 10, 1823 , daughter of Prince Ludwig Wilhelm Geldricus Ernst zu Bentheim and Steinfurt , with whom he had the following children:
