Ludwig Wilhelm Prince of Bentheim and Steinfurt (born August 1, 1812 in Burgsteinfurt ; † September 28, 1890 ibid) was a German nobleman and a Hanoverian and Prussian lieutenant general . From 1866 he was head of the Bentheim and Steinfurt family .

Life

origin

Ludwig zu Bentheim and Steinfurt was a member of the noble family Bentheim-Steinfurt , who was raised to the prince status in 1817 . His parents were Prince Alexius zu Bentheim and Steinfurt (1781–1866) and Wilhelmine, née Princess von Solms-Braunfels (1793–1865).

Career

Military career

He was from July 29, 1844 Captain à la suite of the Royal Hanoverian Regiment Garde du Corps , and climbed on December 6, 1849 Major , on May 27, 1855 Lt. In 1866 Ludwig zu Bentheim and Steinfurt succeeded his father as head of the princely house. In the following year he became a hereditary member of the Prussian mansion , member of the first Hanoverian Chamber and from 1873 to 1877 of the Westphalian Provincial Parliament . From 1873 to 1877 he was represented in the provincial parliament by Karl von Basse . He himself had represented his father in the provincial parliament in 1845 and 1851.

From 1875 he was also a member of the Württemberg Chamber of Notaries . He inherited the mandate of his childless uncle, Prince Ferdinand zu Solms-Braunfels, who died in 1873 . However, Prince Ludwig never appeared in person in the Württemberg Chamber. From 1884 he was represented in Stuttgart by his son Alexis zu Bentheim and Steinfurt .

Bentheim-Steinfurt married on June 27, 1839 with Bertha Wilhelmine Caroline Luise Marie Princess of Hessen-Philippsthal-Barchfeld (1818-1888), eldest daughter of Landgrave Karl von Hessen-Philippsthal-Barchfeld (1784-1854). The following children resulted from the marriage.
