Karl Anton Friedrich Wilhelm Ludwig von Hohenzollern (born September 1, 1868 in Sigmaringen ; † February 21, 1919 at Namedy Castle near Andernach ) was a Prince of Hohenzollern and a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

Karl Anton was the youngest son of Prince Leopold von Hohenzollern (1835–1905) from his marriage to Antonia von Sachsen-Coburg and Gotha (1845–1913), daughter of the Portuguese royal couple Ferdinand II. And Maria II. Da Gloria . His oldest brother Wilhelm was the last Prince of Hohenzollern from 1905 to 1918 ; the second brother became King of Romania in 1914 as Ferdinand I.

Karl Anton married on May 28, 1894 in Brussels Josephine , daughter of Prince Philippe of Belgium , Count of Flanders (1837-1905) from his marriage to Maria Luise (1845-1912), daughter of Prince Karl Anton von Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen . Josephine's brother Albert became King of the Belgians in 1909.

After Karl Anton fell out with his superior officer, he ended his military career. On January 27, 1914, he was given the character of Lieutenant General and was made à la suite of the 1st Guard Dragoons Regiment "Queen Victoria of Great Britain and Ireland" . In 1909 Prince Karl Anton bought Namedy Castle near Andernach . He had the property expanded extensively. The castle is still owned by the Hohenzollern family today.

Karl Anton died immediately after the First World War and was initially buried in the Namedy cemetery. His remains were later transferred to the Sigmaringer Erlöserkirche .
