Karl Baisch

Karl Baisch (born January 28, 1869 in Gaildorf ; † January 8, 1943 in Stuttgart ) was a German gynecologist .

Karl Baisch was a son of the high school professor Friedrich Baisch and Berta Schütt. He himself married a woman named Julie in 1910, whose father Emil Mayer owned a print shop in Munich . In 1919 he married a second wife named Irma, whose father Leonhard Käppner was a Nuremberg teacher. Both marriages had a daughter.

Baisch learned at the Protestant theological seminars in Maulbronn and Blaubeuren . From 1887 to 1890 he attended the University of Tübingen to study theology and philology . He then moved to Munich to study medicine . He finished his studies with the state examination and doctorate at the University of Freiburg . From 1895 to 1902 he practiced as a doctor in Dornhan . Afterwards he assisted Paul Clemens von Baumgarten at the pathological institute of the University of Tübingen for some time . This was followed by a position as assistant doctor to Albert Döderlein at the gynecological clinic of the University of Tübingen. In 1904 he completed his habilitation in Tübingen for obstetrics and gynecology. After Döderlein accepted a call to Munich in 1904, Baisch followed him as senior physician at the gynecological clinic at Munich University . Baisch played a key role in the expansion of surgical gynecology, which was significantly influenced by Döderlein.

In 1910 Baisch was appointed associate professor. In 1913 he switched to the Stuttgart gynecological clinic as director and lost this post in 1933 for political reasons.

Publications

Baisch published extensively for magazines and manuals and wrote monographs . He dealt with various aspects of obstetrics and gynecology. He was particularly interested in bacteriological issues and birth management in the narrow pelvis. He also wrote repeatedly about gynecological radiation therapy.
