Karl Cervik (born October 15, 1931 in Vienna , † October 22, 2012 in Geeste / Lower Saxony) was an Austro-German author.

Life

Karl Cervik grew up in Vienna from 1931 to 1942 and in Würzburg (Mainfranken) from 1942 to 1945 . After that he lived again in Vienna and Lower Austria from 1945 to 1948. In 1946 his mother died of hunger and cold, in 1949 his father. He wanted to emigrate to the USA in 1948 at the age of 16 , but due to a fall while escaping from the third floor of the Karlshof educational home in Wabern near Kassel, he only got as far as Essen - Kupferdreh . The accident (injury to the tailbone with walking difficulties) forced him to look for work and accommodation in the Ruhr area. Since 1945 he had to survive alone in rural areas. Work and residence had to be proven at the same time in Essen, so he had to start as a mining apprentice. From 1948 to 1950 he completed his apprenticeship as a miner at the Heinrich colliery in Essen-Überruhr . From 1951 to the middle of 1955 he worked in the chemical industry (Rheinisch-Westfälische Farbwerke Leberhof), in the construction industry ( Koppers , Schryn) and as an intern in the carbon-biological research institute of Ruhrgas AG with Dr. Rempke worked in Essen-Bredeney. In 1955 he started at the DB Bahnmeisterei Essen Hbf 1, most recently in the technical service at the Essen Federal Railway Directorate. In 1986 he graduated from secondary school . In 1990 he retired from active civil service after a heart attack.

In the 1960s, Karl Cervik founded the support group of the community school , based in Essen e. V. and in 1966 a school policy working group of the Humanist Union in North Rhine-Westphalia, as it was itself a “product” of the educational reform period . Both organizations influenced the legislation in favor of the community school in North Rhine-Westphalia. With the school reform in 1968, the separation of the old elementary school into elementary and secondary schools and the introduction of the community secondary school as a regular school in North Rhine-Westphalia, partial goals were achieved. Cervik also did preparatory work for the establishment of the Bildungswerk der Humanistische Union e. V. in North Rhine-Westphalia in 1971 and was honorary chairman there for years.

In his voluntary work afterwards in the closed and open penal system in Essen, Werl and Castrop-Rauxel as leader of discussion groups, he offered inmates the opportunity to deal with their role and the structures of society in personal, political and social terms. All voluntary activities were carried out alongside full-time work for the Deutsche Bundesbahn. - In recent years he has dealt with child “euthanasia” in Vienna and welfare education under the Nazi regime in the former districts of Vienna, Lower Danube and Main Franconia and published parts of his diary from the mining years 1948–1950 in Rainer Busch's book. He is the holder of the Golden Mark of Merit of the State of Vienna. Karl Cervik lived in Essen until 1997 and since then in Lower Saxony. Cervik was a member of the Federal German Association of German Writers (VS) and the Austrian Writers' Association (ÖSV).
