Karl Conradt

Karl Conradt (born February 10, 1847 in Köslin , † January 18, 1922 in Greifenberg ) was a German classical philologist and high school teacher.

Life

Karl Conradt, the son of the mail wagon master August Conradt and his wife Pauline geb. Simon, attended the grammar school in his hometown, passed the matriculation examination on September 25, 1865 and then studied classical philology, German , history and geography at the University of Greifswald . In the winter semester of 1866/1867 he moved to the Berlin University , where he belonged to the philological seminar and the Germanic Association. On January 3, 1870, he was charged with a dissertation on the versification of Terence Dr. phil. doctorate , on December 13, 1870, he passed the teaching examination in the subjects German, Latin, Greek (for senior prima) and history and geography (for tertiary).

After completing his studies, Conradt worked at various educational institutions in Pomerania. He completed his probationary year at the Städtische Real-Lehranstalt in Stettin , where he was employed as a full teacher on October 1, 1871. After a year he switched to Schlawe's Progymnasium . On October 1, 1877, he went to the Marienstiftsgymnasium in Stettin as a senior teacher , where on October 11, 1884 he was given the title of "high school professor ".

From January 7, 1889, Conradt was director of the grammar school in Greifenberg. He received several awards for his work there: On the occasion of the school anniversary he was awarded the 4th Class Red Eagle Order on September 8, 1902, and the 3rd Class Crown Order on August 26, 1911 on the occasion of his 40th anniversary of service . For health reasons, Conradt retired on April 1, 1912 and was appointed a secret councilor.

Conradt's teaching went hand in hand with his scientific work, which focused entirely on the Greek and Roman stage poets. Conradt examined the rhythmic and metrical structure of Greek and Latin dramas and wrote annotated school editions of Aeschylus and Sophocles .
