Karl Ludwig Anton Costenoble (also Carl Costenoble , born November 26, 1837 in Vienna , † June 20, 1907 ibid) was an Austrian sculptor .

Life

Karl Costenoble was a posthumous son of the court actor Karl Ludwig Costenoble from his second marriage. His artistic career began as a student of Franz Melnitzky (1822–1876) and Franz Bauer (1798–1872) at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. From 1860 to 1864 he led a studio in Munich until he was appointed to Vienna in the local kuk Hofwaffenmuseum , now the Museum of Military History , the marble - statues of Henry of Dampierre , Friedrich Graf Veterani and Adolf von Schwarzenberg execute (dated all 1867) . Emperor Franz Joseph I acquired a bust of Emperor Karl V and Emperor Maximilian I from the artist. In 1876, he and Anton Poschacher (industrialist, 1841) visited the world exhibition in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania , USA , and reported on architecture and public buildings. In 1883 he directed the anniversary exhibition on the siege of the Turks in the town hall and in 1886 he set up the municipal weapons collection and the Grillparzer exhibition. He was a city ​​councilor and a member of the state parliament in Vienna.

His artistic estate was auctioned at the Dorotheum in Vienna from March 5 to 7, 1908.

Honors

He was a knight of the Franz Joseph Order and was given a grave of honor in the Vienna Central Cemetery (Group 14 A No. 39).
