Karl Etti (pharmacist)

Karl Etti (born June 25, 1825 in Wangen im Allgäu , † November 29, 1890 in Vienna ) was a German pharmacist.

Life

After completing his basic pharmaceutical training, Etti studied in Göttingen and Munich . There he worked from 1845 to 1846 in the institute of Johann Andreas Buchner .

In 1853 he took over his father Remigius Etti's pharmacy in Wangen im Allgäu , which he managed until 1866 and then sold to the pharmacist E. Dreiss. In order to devote himself entirely to science, Karl Etti moved to Vienna , where he worked in the laboratory of the Agricultural Research Station and in Ernst Ludwig's laboratory .

Afterwards he worked with Heinrich Hlasiwetz at the laboratory of the Technical University of Vienna and after Hlasiwetz's death in the 1st chemical university laboratory under Ludwig von Barth . During his time under Hlasiwetz, he was particularly concerned with vegetable dyes and tannins. In 1878 he exhibited kino the Kinoin represents and found in his work on the connections of vanillin with the pyrogallol and phloroglucinol the detailed explanation of the " Wiesnerschen reaction ". He deepened his knowledge of tannins with his work on the tannic acid of oak bark.
