Max Burret
Max Burret (completely Carl Ewald Max Burret or Karl Ewald Maximilian Burret ; born June 6, 1883 in Saffig near Andernach , † September 19, 1964 in Berlin ) was a German botanist . Its official botanical author's abbreviation is " Burret ".
Live and act
At the urging of his father, he began his university education with a law degree in Lausanne and Munich . His real passion, however, was botany, so he changed study location and subject: in 1909 he completed his botany studies with a dissertation in Berlin. He stayed in Berlin during his academic career. He was custodian of the local botanical garden and later professor.
His research first took him to Europe and Africa , later he studied the South American palm trees at the invitation of the Brazilian government. In 1938 and 1939 he traveled to the tropics of the "Old World": Ceylon , Java and Sumatra .
Burret's specialty was palm trees ; he published mainly on palms and tillandsias .
Dedication names
In honor of the genera Burretiodendron Rehd. the plant family of the lime trees (Tiliaceae), Burretiokentia Pichi-Sermolli and Maxburretia Furtado , both from the plant family of the palm trees (Arecaceae).
