Karl Friedrich Borée

Karl-Friedrich Borée (actually: Karl Friedrich Boeters ; born January 29, 1886 in Görlitz ; † July 28, 1964 in Darmstadt ) was a lawyer, narrator and essayist.

Life

His father, the surgeon Ernst Boeters , made it possible for him to study economics and law in Berlin. He then did his doctorate as Dr. jur., before continuing his career as an assistant at the law faculty in Berlin in 1913. During the First World War , Borée was seriously wounded as a soldier at an early age and was released after a lengthy hospital stay. From 1919 he was employed in the city administration of Berlin-Frohnau , but already moved to Königsberg in 1920 , where he was a city councilor until 1924. He then had a law firm in Berlin for ten years , but from 1934 at the latest he pursued his writing ambitions. From 1952 Borée was secretary of the German Academy for Language and Poetry , based in Darmstadt. He had his last apartment in the tenement building Rüdesheimer Str. 102 in Darmstadt, where he also died.

The very successful first novel "Dor und der September", published in 1930, as well as the lifelong friendship with Hans Schlösser, whom he met during a visit to Kesten on the Moselle, were probably decisive for the change in livelihood . His second novel, “Das Quartier an der Mosel”, originates from this visit. After his first work, a love story, reached several hundred thousand copies, the second book was banned by the National Socialists because of the unmilitary and humane attitude represented in it .
